According to the official website of Bengaluru Metro, the first phase of Bangalore will cover a distance of 42.30 KM.  The stretch of 18.10 KM out of 42.30 KM will start from Baiyappanahalli and will end at Mysore Road terminal and the route will be SV Road, Indiranagar, CMH Road, Halasuru, Tirinity Circle, MG Road, Cricket stadium, Vidhana Saudha, Central College, Majestic, City Railway station, Magadi Road, Hosahalli, Vijayanagar and Deepanjali Nagar.

The remaining 24.20 will start at Nagasandra and end at Puttenahalli and the metro will pass through Mahalakshmi, Rajajinagar, Kuvempu Road, Malleswaram, Swastik, Majestic, Chikpete, City Market, K.R. Road, Lalbagh, South End Circle,Jayanagar and Puttenahalli.

Only one fifth of the total distance will be underground and the remaining major portion of the metro will be elevated.

Only three coaches will be available for a train and this can accommodate around 1000 persons.

According to media reports, the Bangalore Metro will come into operation on 20th October 2011.  The trains will run with a frequency of 10 minutes gap.

The inaugural function will be headed by the Chief Minister of Karanataka Mr Sadananda Gowda.
